I could come up with hundreds of adjectives to describe Garrett Ayers -- brilliant, thoughtful, passionate, talented, mature -- and although he possesses all of these attributes and more, no one word captures Garrett more accurately than trustworthy. Of all the young directors I've worked with, Garrett rises to the top. In all that he has accomplished, Garrett is an inspiration and promises to be a force in the next generation of artistic leaders.

I believe Garrett is a born director, and though young enough to be my son, I came to utterly trust his eye and listen carefully to his suggestions. Truly fine directors are the rarest of stage animals, and I would seek Garrett's coaching and/or work with him as a director gladly and gratefully again. Along with everything else, he's a hell of a nice guy!

No matter where he is working, Garrett has a way of building a community of motivated, talented, caring artists. His tireless drive to create inspires everyone around him. His constant encouragement and childlike sense of wonder attract talent and loyalty from his collaborators. His love for the theater is infectious and exhilarating. A martial artist does not seek to break a board. He seeks to break through whatever object is beyond the board. Similarly, Garrett often reaches for the unattainable, sometimes asks his cohorts to strive for the impossible, and in doing so creates wondrous theatrical magic.
Garrett LOVES theater, and he loves the people who work in it. He has both the gift of enthusiasm--for good work and for good human beings--and the intelligence to discern where to focus it. Theater demands of its participants that they be open to the full range of life's emotions, raw though they may be; while embracing that demand wholeheartedly, Garrett also manages, through his essential joyfulness, to create a safe environment in which to explore. This is a great gift for all students, but especially for those just starting out.
Garrett has the ability to nurture and assist an artist in embracing their individuality while also maintaining the cohesion of an ensemble piece...He is a wonderful director, creator and human being! I would work with him again in a heartbeat!
